Cutting Funeral Costs

The simplest, least expensive arrangements for care of a deceased person’s body are direct cremation and immediate burial. All funeral homes and mortuaries must offer both of these options and must list them on their General Price List (GPL). Prices vary greatly from funeral home to funeral home.

DIRECT CREMATION is a simple cremation without embalming, viewing, or any kind of service. The price is low because the Funeral Director may arrange the cremation at a time that is convenient for them. For more details on shopping for a Direct Cremation package, CLICK HERE.

IMMEDIATE BURIAL is a basic burial package that does not include embalming, viewing, or any kind of service. The price is low because the Funeral Director may arrange for transporting the casketed body to the cemetery at a time that is convenient for them. Usually the family is not even present at the burial. Since there is no viewing or ceremony, the casket can be plain and simple and there is no need for cosmetology of the body.  For more details on shopping for an Immediate Burial package, CLICK HERE.

OTHER OPTIONS: Even those who opt for something more traditionally full-featured than Immediate Burial or Direct Cremation can still experience significant cost savings by understanding their rights and choices, shopping around, and asking the right questions. Knowing what you want and what you don’t want is the first step. Doing your research—on this site and elsewhere—to get an understanding of the range of possibilities is the second. Then shop around!
