The FCAGA’s Funeral Home Pricing Comparison Table shows direct pricing  comparisons for two of the most basic, economical funeral options available: Direct Cremation and Immediate Burial. Comparison shopping between funeral homes is extremely difficult, however, because of lack of consistency from funeral home to funeral home on the exact components included in a Direct Cremation or Immediate Burial package. In order to fairly present a side-by-side comparison, the FCAGA has identified the most common set of components for each package (listed below) and has sought to extract those components—and only those components—from each of the General Price Lists we have available. The figures in the Direct Cremation and Immediate Burial columns on our Pricing Comparison page include:

DIRECT CREMATION

  • Basic Services Fee;
  • Removal of the body at any hour of the day or night within a 30 mile service area (upcharge fees could apply for distances outside of this range);
  • Sheltering/refrigeration of the body for up to 72 hrs.;
  • Alternative container (provided by the funeral home);
  • Crematory fee;
  • Basic cardboard or plastic box for the ashes to be picked up by next of kin;
  • Filing of death certificate; and
  • Notification to Social Security.

IMMEDIATE BURIAL

  • Basic Services Fee;
  • Removal of the body at any hour of the day or night within a 30 mile service area (upcharge fees will apply distances outside of this range);
  • Sheltering/refrigeration of the body for up to 72 hrs.;
  • Basic cloth-covered wooden casket;
  • Dressing and casketing the body;
  • Delivery of casketed body to a cemetery within a 30 mile service area between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday;
  • Filing of death certificate; and
  • Notification to Social Security.
